Here are some of the images that I took for my DPS;

All of these images that I took relate to a cover of XXL which shows rapper Lupe Fiasco praying, whilst looking slightly upwards.

Here are a range of photo's that I captured for my contents page;

This image is similar to a front cover of Vibe. Both artists are pointing upwards. In Vibe, Plies is pointing towards the masthead, whereas on my contents page, the artists would similarly point towards 'Contents'.

Here is a range of potential front cover photos that I would pick from.
I told my artist to wear red, black and white clothing so that it matches my colour scheme. This will create a strong final piece, because the artist’s clothes usually match the colour scheme in magazines that I have looked at (such as Vibe/XXL).
I also told my artist to wear a chain, watch, hat and sunglasses; because I noticed that these are conventions of hip hop magazines.

 

 These two images are similar. On my front cover, there would be a pull-out quote saying "It's My Time", much like in this issue of Vibe it states 'Its Obama Time.' In my photo, the artist is looking towards his watch which emphasises the idea of the time.

This shot shows the artist pointing towards the camera, which is similar to Vibe magazine, as Akon is doing the same pose. I think this pose looks strong and straight to the point, the artists also looks as if he is in control too. This idea of power is emphasised through my colour scheme (red, black and white) which are all bold and powerful colours.

Hip Hop music videos

In many Hip Hop music videos, artists rap about their life and their struggle's through it. 

I will be using this  to help me through my Double Page Spread and the questions that I Would be asking the artist.  

Here is an example of a music video by US rapper Q Da Kid. He raps about the death of his friend Shakir and the short life that he lived.

Codes and Convention's of Hip Hop music videos.

Here is a list of Codes and Convention's of Hip Hop music video's.

• Dancing
• Dark colours.
• Simple settings (mise en scene)
• Women (to show their sexuality, which appeals to males)

• Revealing clothing (women)
• Usually at a club
• Portrayal of wealth & power- Cars, jewellery,expensive alcohol.
  
  These points would help me when I take my shots.
